Being Thankful...

As I sit here in my boss’s office listening to my MP3 player while not quite frantically working away at getting a database updated, I am listening to Fred Hammond. He is singing, “Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, gentle redeemer…”, and all I can think of doing is talking to God and thanking Him for sending His Son to earth for us and for being the gentle redeemer He is. I like having little conversations with God during the day, and what funny conversations they are at times. He already knows I’m a ‘funny chick’, so it makes it alright!

Last year I spent a rather long but fun day riding around on the back of a Harley Davidson for 14 hours. During that trip my riding partner and I encountered sun, wind, snow, darkness and, much to our chagrin at 10pm at night, rain! When we finally returned home, my partner said to me that he just knew I was sitting back there on the bike talking to God. And yes I was. I was praying that God would keep us safe and get us home sooner rather than later. I was also thanking God that I was with Him and my partner, and that if anything bad was to happen to us, that I was glad to be there with both my “hims”.

When you really think about it, we do have a lot to be thankful for in our lives, especially when we walk with Jesus. I am thankful for every new day I wake up to, the little voice I hear every morning from in the other bedroom (Mum-mee!), the hot water I use to shower, the clothes that I wear, the electricity I use to dry my hair and brew my coffee, the job I have that enables me to drive my daughter to school and me to work, the ability and skills to do my job, and the list goes on and on!

As my walk with God gets all the more exciting day after day, I stop more to say thank you to Him who gave me life, who knows everything about me and every move I will make, and who loves and cares for me more than anyone in this world. It’s an amazing feeling to think that we have someone who loves us as much as He does. I’m finding His love even more incredible as I learn more and more about what He has made happen since creation and what He is going to make happen.

So thank you God…thank you for everything.

Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. – Colossians 4:2 (NIV)
